Eric Dodson needed less than two minutes in the Squared Circle to crack the Top 5 rankings in BKFC’s stacked featherweight division.
Dodson brought home back-to-back stoppage victories in a combined time of 115 seconds – enough to quickly warrant the No. 5 contender spot in the bustling 145-pound division.
“It feels good,” Dodson says with a chuckle.
“I actually had to look it up for myself when I was told that I’d made the Top 5. It’s great, but I thought maybe somebody made a mistake.”
The bashful Dodson looks to erase any doubt Friday as he tries to bash another opponent in the Squared Circle. He’ll try to make it 3-for-3 against the battle-tested Robert Arnas (1-2, 1 KO) at BKFC 48 in his hometown of Albuquerque, NM, LIVE on The BKFC App.
Dodson hopes for another highlight-reel finish this weekend, but he seems even more excited to see his older brother, John “The Magician” Dodson (2-0, 2 KOs), challenge JR “The Lion” Ridge (3-1, 2 KOs) for the vacant inaugural BKFC World Flyweight Championship in Friday’s Main Event.
Eric didn’t pursue a career in professional combat while John was tearing it up in the UFC’s flyweight division. He regrets that he couldn’t share the UFC stage with his brother, so Eric is beyond grateful for this opportunity with BKFC, the world’s fastest growing combat sports promotion..
“Being able to compete for BKFC alongside my brother is fantastic,” Eric says with a big smile. “The opportunity to fight alongside my brother is remarkable – I love it.”
Eric sees himself and his hard-hitting brother both holding BKFC title belts within the next 12 months.
“Having a pair of brothers both holding titles will be a first for BKFC and it will be a first for us too,” he says. “That’s something that will be extremely special.”
