JR Ridge is impatiently waiting on history’s doorstep.

He’s counting down the seconds until Aug. 11, when he’ll have the chance to become the inaugural BKFC World Flyweight Champion as he takes on John Dodson (2-0, 2 KOs) in the Main Event of BKFC 48 in Albuquerque, NM, LIVE on The BKFC App. 

“This moment has been a long time coming,” says Ridge, who signed with BKFC in 2021. 

“To be the first ever champion in the fastest growing combat sports promotion in the world – there’s no words to describe that. It’s going to be huge.”

Ridge has been a fan of Dodson since Dodson was tearing it up in the UFC’s flyweight division. Ridge is now ready to test his world-class striking skills against the former UFC title challenger. 

“I’ve wanted this fight ever since John signed with BKFC,” Ridge says. “I’m a fan of his. He’s got a big name and a lot of accomplishments, but over the years I realized that I could totally beat this guy. When he came to BKFC, I knew it was my time to beat John Dodson.” 

Ridge says he isn’t very impressed by Dodson’s first two victories for BKFC, despite the fact that Dodson needed less than two minutes for each outing. Ridge says his goal is to out-box Dodson and drag the former MMA star into deep waters.

“I want to finish him in the third round,” he says. 

After Ridge strikes gold this summer, the Florida-based fighter's plan is to bring the BKFC Squared Circle to his native Philippines for the first time.

“There are a lot of extremely talented Filipino fighters, and I know BKFC would put on a phenomenal show over there,” he says. “I’d love to take it back home, to my home country, and showcase BKFC across the world.”
