Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship is hitting differently for Frankie Edgar.
The legendary mixed martial artist makes his hugely anticipated debut with BKFC, the world’s fastest growing combat sports promotion, in the Co-Main Event of the organization’s Garden State premiere — BKFC 82 on Oct. 4 at the iconic Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, LIVE worldwide on DAZN.
“As soon as I saw this sport, I was very intrigued,” the fan-favorite Edgar said at the recent BKFC 82 Launch Press Conference in Newark. “I’m a fighter, and this is the fight-iest of all combat sports, so I had to try it out. Why not do it here?”
The Toms River, NJ product is the most recent former Ultimate Fighting Championship titlist to drop their gloves with BKFC. He takes on fellow New Jersey fighting icon Jimmie Rivera. Edgar and Rivera have a combined 41 UFC bouts, but Rivera holds the experience advantage with BKFC. The Elmwood Park, NJ product is 2-2-1 in the Squared Circle, most recently losing to “King” Kai Stewart in their action-packed battle for the BKFC World Featherweight Championship.
“BKFC is intriguing,” Edgar continued at the recent Launch Press Conference. “I used to fight for free with no gloves, so why not get paid to do it here in Newark? Training just for boxing is different. My neck and shoulders feel great.”
