Christine Vicens emphatically returned to the win column at BKFC 78 on Saturday.
Under the bright lights at the sold-out Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL, the Cuban-born Miami product needed just 85 seconds to stop fellow fan-favorite Jenny Savage.
“La Abusadora” is now 4-1 in the Squared Circle after falling to Christine Ferea in their matchup for the BKFC World Women’s Flyweight Title in December.
“I like finishing the fight quickly so I can finally relax and enjoy the company of my family unharmed,” Vicens says with a smile.
“I feel really good about my performance. I’ve been working really hard on my fundamentals, my fight IQ and being a little more patient, and I think I was able to execute that — until it was time to move in and get the finish.”
Vicens earned a Performance Bonus for her efforts, but she’s quick to deflect praise to Savage, who stepped in as a late replacement on fight week.
“I’m so grateful for Jenny stepping up because nobody else was willing to do that and I was really worried that this fight would be cancelled after so many months of hard training,” she says.
“Hats off to my opponent for accepting this fight. She has a really bright future with BKFC.”
Vicens hopes her own future includes the BKFC World Women’s Flyweight Championship belt around her waist.
“That’s still my goal — I still want to be the champ,” Vicens says. “I just want to work my way up the rankings and either get a rematch with Ferea at some point if she still has the belt, or against a new opponent.
“Either way, I’m not going to stop until I have the belt.”
