Steve Townsel has gold on his mind.
After earning his second straight victory at BKFC 78 on Saturday at the sold-out Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL, the Fort Pierce, FL product has his sights set on Chris Camozzi, the reigning BKFC World Cruiserweight Champion.
“I respect what Chris has done in this division, but I believe I’m a bad matchup for him. He hasn’t faced another southpaw, and he’s stiff in the ring, while I move better than anyone else in the weight class. I’m not saying that he’s not a great fighter in his own right, but I’m a bad matchup for him, and anybody else in this division,” says Townsel, who on Saturday took out the previously unbeaten Keith Richardson in the third round of their cruiserweight matchup — good for his fourth stoppage victory in the Squared Circle.
“I think I’ve figured this game out, and I’ve been leveling up my last couple fights. I’ve dialed in on what it takes to beat anybody, and now it’s just a matter of doing it.”
Townsel dreams about having the BKFC World Cruiserweight Title belt around his waist. On his road to divisional supremacy, he’d also love a shot Karl Thompson, the undefeated BKFC United Kingdom Cruiserweight Champion.
“Last week this man (Thompson) went on national television and told everybody that he’s the best cruiserweight in the world. I beg to differ,” he says.
“I’d be more than happy to cross the pond, or we’ll roll out the red carpet for him here in Florida. If I can’t get Chris right away, I’m more than happy to win the UK Title to prove that I’m next in line for the World Title.”
