James Lilley is still riding high from the weekend.
On Saturday, the Welsh lightweight contender defeated Tyler Goodjohn by Unanimous Decision on the Main Card of BKFC 27 at OVO Arena Wembley in London, LIVE on the BKFC app.
The organization made an epic first impression to remember in its highly anticipated European debut, and “Lights Out” Lilley improved to 2-0 in the BKFC Squared Circle.
“I don’t think it’s sunk in quite so much yet,” Lilley said with a laugh on Monday. “It was a mad experience. It was so exciting. The biggest show that I’ve ever been a part of, and the fans absolutely loved it.
“It was great to be a part of such a historic event, and the fight went almost exactly as we hoped it would go.”
Lilley entered Fight Night as the No. 3-ranked lightweight on the BKFC roster. He feels his impressive victory over Goodjohn, a former title challenger, proved that he belongs amongst the best 155-pound bare knuckle fighters on the planet.
Lilley believes he should surpass Chad Mendes (1-0) as the No. 1 lightweight contender in the BKFC rankings, but the always respectful Welshman stops short of calling out Luis “Baboon” Palomino, who at 7-0 is the current champion in the lightweight and welterweight divisions.
“I’m just going to see what happens,” Lilley said. “I’d love to fight Palomino for the lightweight title, or perhaps fight for an interim championship if he wants to defend his welterweight title first. I’m not really sure what else there is out there for me.”
