Jimmy Sweeney entered the BKFC as a true legend of bare-knuckle fighting having earned six titles across four weight classes outside of the Squared Circle. With a total record of 19-4 in the sport of bare-knuckle fighting, Sweeney demands respect from any combat sports athlete and fan alike. It is likely that his actual fight record is closer to 29-4 with some of those fights having taken place in less notable, underground promotions.
Sweeney hails from Ireland and is looked at as a cult hero. It’s widely acknowledged in the UK that bare-knuckle fighting was a brawler’s sport or a way for tough guys with little skill to get into a ring and earn money for being able to take a punch. ‘King’ Sweeney changed that by bringing in a high level of technicality that has been unmatched by a wide majority of fighters in the sport today.
With wins over many legends in bare-knuckle including James Connelly and the BKFC’s Rico Franco and Julian Lane, only a small handful of Sweeney’s fights have not had a belt on the line. In total 18 of his 23 fights have been to either defend or obtain a title so pressure does not get to the Irishman, he thrives in it!
The soft spoken but extremely confident Sweeney knows his worth in the world of bare-knuckle and will go down as a first ballot hall of famer when he decides to retire. The question is, does he continue his dominance in the BKFC and claim an additional title to add to his mantle? Perhaps it’s not “does he,” but more “when will he stack up additional gold and how many times?” Prepare for beautiful violence when Jimmy Sweeney toes the line!

The Michigan fighter struck gold in the BKFC 88 Main Event in Denver

The Denver fighter is now 5-1 with 3 straight wins after his Co-Main Event victoryRamiro Figueroa is riding high after earning the biggest win of his career at BKFC 88. In the Co-Main Event at the sold-out National Western Center in Figueroa’s hometown of Denver, he notched his third straight victory at the expense of former BKFC World Champion Elvin “El Bandido” Brito. Figueroa is now 5-1 under the BKFC banner. “(Brito) is a legend. Everybody speaks highly of his accomplishments in bare knuckle fighting, so this was the next step up that I had to rise to,” the 24-year-old Figueroa says. Mission accomplished. In his last three trips to the Squared Circle, Figueroa has taken out the former BKFC World Champion Brito, the previously undefeated Dalvin “Hippy Disciple” Blair and former BKFC World Championship challenger Howard “HD” Davis. What’s next? Figueroa hopes his next fight will be for the BKFC World Lightweight Championship, or he’d also be more than happy to fight for an interim belt, if necessary. Regardless of what’s on the immediate horizon, Figueroa agrees that he’s at the forefront of the hard-charging next wave of BKFC superstars. “I’m 24, and I believe my best is still years away, when I’m in my prime. If I can secure the belt now, I still believe that I’ll be dominant for as long as I want,” he says. “I don’t understand the full game of bare knuckle yet, but I’m learning more and more with every single fight. I believe that the sooner I win the Championship, it’s going to be even better for me, and I’ll hold the belt for many years.”
