Jancarlos Rivera considers himself a “pure BKFC product,” viewing the Squared Circle as the ultimate turning point that pulled him away from a turbulent past and into a dedicated athletic career. Growing up in Connecticut surrounded by high-level wrestlers and martial artists, Rivera gained an early foundation on the mats, competing in wrestling at a young age. Being the smallest in a household of boys where his brothers became Connecticut high school wrestling state champions, he developed an ingrained resilience and an urgency to prove himself against larger, experienced competition.

Rivera transitioned into boxing in is mid teens before taking a break from training. Following the death of his father when he was 17, Rivera found his way back into the combat sports gym at age 19. His entry into the bare-knuckle world materialized when Chris Garcia encouraged him to seize an opportunity and step into the BKFC Squared Circle on short notice.

In the BKFC, Rivera blends his boxing fundamentals with the gritty adaptability forged in his youth. Describing himself as having an almost hyper-focused, obsessive approach to combat that makes him feel like an anime character, Rivera aims to bend his own style to counter and dismantle whatever his opponent brings. He looks up to dynamic, relentless fighters like Manny Pacquiao, Diego Sanchez, Canelo Álvarez, and Teófimo López, while carrying bloodline inspiration from his cousin, four-division world boxing champion Miguel Cotto.

Rivera’s path to professional athletics required overcoming significant childhood trauma and environment-driven obstacles. Raised in an unstable household where public appearances often masked severe internal turmoil, his family dynamic was complex: his mother was a devoted Christian, his stepfather was Catholic, and his biological father actively pressured him toward theft and street crime. Caught between conflicting influences, Rivera spent years getting into trouble and cycling in and out of the corrections system from the time he was young.

A major personal turning point occurred at age 23, when Rivera chose to step away from the streets and gave his life over to God. He credits his faith with giving him the discipline to break out of a cycle that he believes traps too many young people into perpetual criminality, feeling that he successfully outsmarted and overcame the system.

Rivera is now a father of two and looks to continue to inspire and raise his children to strive to accomplish every goal that they set in life.
