Jamel Herring is an American professional boxer born in Rockville Center, NY. Before turning pro, Herring began training boxing under Austin Hendrickson in 2001 and two short years later found another calling in the United States Marine Corps. He earned the rank of Sergeant during two tours of duty in Iraq. While he was an active member of the military, he balanced training along with it and landed a spot on the All Marine Boxing Team in 2006.
As an amateur, Herring had great success winning a silver medal at the 2010 World Military Games and a gold medal at the 2011 and 2012 Armed Forces Championships. From there, he won gold in the 2012 Olympic Trials and became the first Marine since 1992 to qualify for the US Olympic Team landing him in the All Marine Boxing Hall of Fame.
With a professional boxing record 24-5, Herring’s success rolled on as he became the WBO and IBF junior lightweight champions. His last boxing match before toeing the line in the BKFC was in April of 2024. Jamel Herring makes his BKFC debut against Matt Guymon in the co-main event of BKFC 86 at the Mohegan Sun.
