Steve Townsel’s persistence finally paid off Friday.

After his fight with Chris Sarro was booked, canceled, rebooked, canceled again, and then pushed back once more for good measure, the two cruiserweight contenders finally did battle at BKFC 38 on Friday in Hollywood, FL – almost a full year after the bout was first scheduled to happen.

The long-awaited showdown ultimately played out in Townsel’s favor as he defeated Sarro via third-round KO at the sold-out Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, LIVE on The BKFC App.

“I was starting to wonder if this fight was ever going to happen,” Townsel says with a laugh. “It seemed for a long time like this fight was cursed. There was a part of me that thought he would flake out, but he showed up.”

After earning stoppage victories in back-to-back fights, Townsel will be watching BKFC 43 intently. At the event in Omaha, NE on May 19, No. 3-ranked cruiserweight Houston "The Assassin" Alexander (3-0) and No. 4 Jeremy "Pitbull" Smith (3-1) do battle with serious title implications on the line. Townsel would like to fight the winner of the highly anticipated cruiserweight headliner, or Quentin “The Hero” Henry (5-2), the No. 1-ranked contender in the division.

“I want to be busy,” Townsel says. “As long as I’m healthy, I want to be fighting as much as possible, and working my way towards the Top 5 and a title shot.”
