Jeremy “Pitbull” Smith has been in all kinds of fights over the years all around the world.
But the former African MMA champion and professional kickboxer says bare knuckle fighting is the best fit for him.
“I’ve always had a lot of power in my hands, and striking has always been the strongest aspect of my game,” Smith said before his light-heavyweight showdown with Donald Sanchez at BKFC 28 on Saturday in Albuquerque, LIVE on the BKFC app.
“Bare knuckle is a perfect fit for me. I wish it was around when I was younger, because this is the path I would’ve taken.”
Smith lives in the United States, but he hails from South Africa, a country he believes could be a logical destination for a future BKFC event.
“My inbox has been full since signing with BKFC; everybody wants to do it,” he said with a laugh. “I don’t want to say we’re a violent nation, but it’s normal for us to fight. That’s how we grew up.”
“Pitbull” was given his nickname for his tenacity. He is excited to live up to his well-deserved reputation in the BKFC Squared Circle.
“I think this is going to be a great fight between two true veterans of combat sports,” Smith said. “Together, we’ve got more than 100 fights between us. We’ve both got a lot of experience, and neither one of us is going to back down for a second.”
