Jake Young inspired by fellow Canadian Arturo Gatti to put on legendary fights

Canadian welterweight Jake Young wants to go down in history.

Paydays and belts are great, he says, but his goal is put on legendary fights that fans remember for a lifetime. Back-and-forth, drag-’em-out contests are a lot more intriguing to the London, ON product than playing it safe and slowly climbing the rankings.

“The reason I got started in fighting is because back in the day I saw Arturo Gatti-Micky Ward I, and ever since then I’ve been hooked on combat sports,” Young says.

“The money and belts come and go, but I want to be putting on those fights that people talk about for years to come.”

That’s exactly the kind of fight Young expects Saturday when he battles Rene Rodriguez at BKFC 34 in Hollywood, FL, LIVE on the BKFC app

“As much as I want to say I’m going to get the KO in the first round, I believe this is going to be a toe-to-toe, bloody fight for both of us,” Young says.

“But that’s exactly what I want.”
