BKFC fans can get used to seeing Jake “The Grinder” Heffernan in the Squared Circle.
On Saturday, the Houston product was victorious in his promotional premiere at BKFC 76, stopping Paco Castillo in the opening round of their lightweight matchup at the sold-out Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, TX.
“Man, that was really fun,” the affable Heffernan says with a smile.
“Bare knuckle fighting really fits me well as a fighter. I wasn’t sure if I might be a little timid going into the fight, but I got in there, stepped on the gas, and kept it going the entire time.
“It was a really cool experience as a fighter, and the production value for BKFC is really, really high.”
Some fighters have competing for BKFC on their “bucket list.” Win or lose, they only have an appetite for one trip to the Squared Circle. Heffernan, 35, is not one of those fighters.
“I have a three-fight contract with BKFC, and I’m looking forward to fighting out my deal with the hopes of re-signing when that one finishes,” he says.
Heffernan doesn’t just want to compete — he’s driven to dominate.
“I feel like I’m already better than 90-percent of the roster that they have, and I’m only going to get better,” he says.
“Even watching the two guys fight in the Main Event on Saturday (Ben Bonner versus Tony Soto for the Interim BKFC World Lightweight Title) — I was not impressed by them at all.
“I can do this and I can beat the guys who are at the top, so I’m going to work as hard as I can and make a title run with the organization.”
