After 97-second BKFC debut, the sky's the limit for fast-rising flyweight Daniel Alvarez

Daniel Alvarez is ready for anything.

So when Alvarez was offered the chance to make his bare knuckle boxing debut at BKFC 25 against the red-hot JR Ridge, the No. 5-ranked BKFC Flyweight, there was no hesitation at all to sign on the dotted line.

“I do respect Ridge. He’s definitely a good fighter with some impressive credentials, but I didn’t hesitate for a second,” Alvarez says. “It’s all about challenging yourself, so I think I signed the bout agreement that same day.”

Alvarez ultimately needed just 97 seconds to defeat Ridge by TKO.

The reason is simple. Alvarez is made for this. Or perhaps bare knuckle boxing was made for Alvarez.

“I feel pretty confident in my wrestling and jiu-jitsu because I’ve done it for a long time, but BKFC is a whole different animal,” Alvarez says. “It’s very different. Very different even from boxing, and I’m definitely made for this more than any other sport.”

Alvarez hopes to fight another Top 5-ranked flyweight contender in his next fight. Beyond that, it doesn’t much matter.

“This is my job, so I’m going to fight whoever is in front of me. It’s not my job to handpick my opponents, and I proved with my last one that that’s not what I want to do.

“I don’t know too much about the fighters ahead of me in the rankings, but I’m game for whatever. I’m up for it, whoever it is.”

Alvarez sees himself at the top of the flyweight rankings within 12 months. After that, he has even bigger goals.

“I could definitely see myself becoming a face of BKFC, which is the goal. Being a top contender, getting the title – those are great goals. But I want to be the one promoting this sport as well," he says. “I’ve got a passion for this sport.”
